Judicial aid warms people's hearts and lawyers' hearings help alleviate poverty

Recently, Gu Lin, a lawyer from the Criminal Affairs Department of our firm, was invited as a hearing officer to participate in the judicial aid hearing held by the First Branch of the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate. The theme of this hearing is to conduct a public hearing on the case of Lin Moumou and five others applying for national judicial aid.

The applicant for judicial aid, Lin Moumou and others, are the parents, spouse and minor children of Lin, the victim of Liu's intentional homicide case in 2016. After Lin was killed, his relatives did not receive compensation from the perpetrator. The victim's parents, Lin Moumou and his wife, are old; The victim's wife, Zheng Moumou, fell ill and needed to take medication for a long time, basically lost the ability to work, and only relied on the subsistence allowance to raise two minor children; In the past few years, the aid applicant has come to Shanghai many times to find the victim, and has become impoverished because of the case. All kinds of misfortunes made the already struggling rescue applicant's family even worse.

After the hearing review, Mr. Gu Lin expressed the hearing opinion as the representative of the hearing officer. She expressed sympathy and condolences for the unfortunate experience of the family of the rescue applicant, and said that after verifying the relevant supporting materials, the hearing officers unanimously agreed that the rescue of the applicant's family was indeed difficult, met the conditions for judicial aid, and should be rescued. At the same time, it highly praised the procuratorate's ability to combine legal reasoning and human feelings, and the integration of criminal policy and humanistic care, and the convening of this hearing was like a timely rain for the rescue applicant's family, saving this broken family, and hoped that the procuratorate would quickly go through the entire procedure in accordance with the law and release the relief funds to the rescue applicant as soon as possible to solve their urgent needs.

After the hearing, lawyer Gu Lin and several other hearing officers asked about the family situation of the rescue applicant with concern, and encouraged him to care for the physical and mental health of the child and cultivate the child into a talent for building the motherland. Lin Moumou, the rescue applicant, expressed his deep gratitude to the procuratorate and the hearing officer for helping his family tide over the difficulties and regain confidence in life.
